I'm sorry, but Andrew does not seem to have really thought this thing out. While I support both civil disobedience and the right for people to put into their own bodies whatever they choose without fearing persecution from the state, from these videos posted I do not see how Andrew has been effective in changing hearts and minds when it comes to cannabis prohibition, particularly with his segment on the local cable access show.

Supporting the indoctrination of D.A.R.E.? Not even responding when the host alludes that parents that are also drug users are bad people and/or bad parents (approx 22:20 into the vid)? Supporting the role of D.A.R.E. officers as encouraging children to snitch on their parents' personal lives and feel guilty for living in a house where drug use may be tolerated? Jesus Christ kid, how many openings do you have to be given to make a point?

Omegis13, I am sure Mr. Carroll would be the first to say he could do a better job with more practice.

I look forward to your demonstration of better ways to influence hearts and minds. I will be happy to set up the interview with police, or legislators, your choice. Shoot me an email: Denis (at) NHCapTV.com

I wonder…was this a rally for those who have already proclaimed themselves free-staters, or were you trying to recruit new members? This was an embarrassing display of outreach if the latter was the case. Andrew is a less-than-gripping orator, and screaming at policemen about nazis and gas chambers likely won't win you any new recruits.

I think that the nature of both Andrew's act and the state's response to it are meant to bring uncertainty into those satisfied with the status quo. Anyone without his or her head up his or her ass (P=) will care less about Andrew's oratory skills and more about the state's inexorable response to Andrew merely possessing pot.

Just what are you doing to further the cause of liberty Jasmine?

  • Jasmine

I'm doing nothing to further the cause of liberty! I'm an average citizen who feels protected by the laws, but I do find your ideas fascinating. I think that this website and Andrew's protest are chances for you to all high-five each other and there is little debate with us outsiders.

So, my last comment stands and should be considered as an objective viewpoint. Find people who are more compelling speakers and don't scream irrelevant insults at policemen who are arresting someone for breaking a law (whether that law is right or wrong). The people you should want to recruit respond better to intelligent dialogue.

Also, the profanity doesn't win anyone over either.

Just thoughts to consider from an outside observer…take it or leave it.

"Also, the profanity doesn’t win anyone over either."

I don't think there was any profanity… but perhaps for the heroic act Andrew portrayed no words were needed to get the point across… Sometimes it helps to shock people, but the way it's gone about can determine whether onlookers inquire further or are turned off.

"I’m an average citizen who feels protected by the laws, but I do find your ideas fascinating."

Jasmine, I once was a neoconservative and I believed in the law above all else. I would have laughed in the face of anyone advocating the end goal of a stateless society. But here I am today, a market anarchist.

I feel safe, and my base instincts tell me I'm safe. But those who the state dislikes are not safe anywhere. I'm not worried for myself, as I believe most true anarchists are.

"I think that this website and Andrew’s protest are chances for you to all high-five each other and there is little debate with us outsiders."

If you want intelligent debate you will find no better place than mises.com imho.

Jasmine: I'd agree yelling personal attacks at the police officers isn't being very productive, but then again, the individual who was yelling "Fascists", "@#$%ing pigs", "Nazis", and other stuff wasn't a Freestater or someone who associates with them. If you listen closely, you'll notice that what is being yelled is aimed at the actions of the police, not the police themselves.
