The Boston Herald is an inflammatory conservative counter-weight to the liberal Boston Globe. It regularly runs stories with headlines like “Hero Cop Takes Down Punk Vandal” or “Irreverent Youngster Refuses To Say Nation’s Pledge.” Do not expect an accurate story from them, it is meant for a very particular type of reader. They do some good exposing local government waste and corruption, but only when it is convenient from a conservative perspective.

I’m much more significantly (and pleasantly) surprised to see a vertically-mid-Nolan-Chart newspaper refer correctly to Free Keene and avoid bringing into it that all-too-oft named proverbial bus of an organization in which some of the Keeniacs were former participants (former in that they have already made the move to New Hampshire).

Reporters fuck details up all the time. I learned this reading news stories about things I had first-hand knowledge of in the Army.
Reporters are just trying to sell ads and getting “the scoop”. It’s generally crap.

The key here is to realize how each detail MIGHT be reported. You lean on a police car and this is the type of distortion that takes place. Good PR is about creating the right photo ops so the story gets told the way YOU want it told. Each an every action, no matter how minor puts the message at risk. It is unfortunate but that is the reality of a “mass media society”. It is not easy in such a volatile situation, but hopefully you learned a lesson here. You will not change the mass media but you can become more away of how to shape the message so the right story gets told.

Many of us in Keene are just sick and tired of you “Free State” and “Free Keene” people, and wish all of you would take a bath and just go back where you came from. Is it a coincidence that you people move to Keene, and we see more arrests for heroin possession in a month than we saw in the past 20 years?

To: “Reality Star”: Actually, yes, it is just a coincidence that the FreeStaters & FreeKeeners arrived shortly before an (apparent) spike in heroin use/posession reports. So far as my agents can determine, (and let me assure you, most of my agents are retired SPECOPS/SEALS/CIA/FBI, etc, the best of the best…), none of the local “Free State” & “Free Keene” folks ever have used so-called “hard drugs” such as heroin. Lots of booze & weed, but that’s also true for a huge chunk of the Keene State College student body, also. And many, if not most Keene Employees, & City Councilors, also…Why do you think Mayor Pregent looks so goofy sometimes??? That dude is *FLYING* on some primo, high quality marihauna! But heroin, no. The apparent increase in heroin busts is really the result of Timmy Robertson & Eli Rivera, along with Freddy Parsells and Randy Filliault, busting some out-of town street-gangs who were trying to “set up shop”, and compete with our local “McMafia”, or “Trenchcoat Mafia”, who supply all the local heroin market. C’mon, Reality Star, we’ve got to keep that methadone clinic down in N.Swanzey open, don’t we??? COURSE WE DO!…How else do wee thin the herd, if we can’t get ‘em to O.D. on methadone on a regular basis???…The drugs that MFS pushes like candy, good as they are at causing brain damage, just don’t kill people as fast as heroin does. Besides, would you rather see people O.D.ing on crack or chrystal meth???…We can get another couple of meth labs up and running, if you’d like to see that…or, I can have City Manager McClean order some more crack through Stillman Rogers’ outfit…What’s gonna make you happy, Reality Star???…As for your offer, I could use a shower more, but I’d love to take a bath at your place.
