Robin Hood

Activists in Keene have been doing Robin Hooding for years now. The purpose is to rescue folks from being ticked by Keene’s “parking enforcers”. Whenever someone’s meter is expired, Robin Hood or her Merry Men will place a coin into the meter to extend the person’s time. Frequently, if a “parking enforcer” is on the street, the Merry Men will walk directly in front of her and check and feed meters before she can. You are welcome to try this activism in your hometown, but in many places feeding a meter for someone else is illegal and could get you thrown in a cage. Not so here in Keene. Here’s a video of some Merry Men in action, and below that the text of the note that they leave on each car they rescue:

Dear fellow people of Keene

Thou almost fell victim to one of the Sheriff of Keene’s meter maidens. But fear not, fellow traveler, for with the aid of my Merry Men you were saved from this heavy tariff!

Robin HoodIn an attempt to thwart our efforts, the sheriff and his alchemists want to replace ye olde meters with new “Pay to Park” kiosk that will prevent Robin Hood’s Merry Men from saving thee good folks of Keene against future citations. These contraptions are estimated to cost between 10,000 and 12,000 Shillings, and have an installation cost of 3,000 Shillings. Not to mention maintenance and repairs. Thee sheriff is hoping to extract another 100,000 Shillings from thee pocket of ye good folk.

If ye feel this measure is out of favor with thee good people of Keene, then I implore ye, fine sir or madam, to voice your opposition to thee Council of thy City.

If ye be in favor of Robin Hood of Keene’s actions, then feel free to aide in our quest. Donations may be sent to:
