On New Year’s Day 2009 the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Police in Oakland, CA summarily executed made a mistake and accidentally shot Oscar Grant while he was laying face down on the ground during his arrest. The trial for the police officer who blasted his brains out came to a close yesterday.
I predict that the officer will be found not-guilty of everything… and this is why: “Mehserle, 28, testified last week that he shot Grant after he mistakenly drew his handgun instead of an electric Taser gun on his belt.” (article here) I predict that the prosecution was unable to prove criminal intent on the officer’s part. I also predict some racially charged riots in the greater San Fransisco, CA area to follow.
The actual footage of the murder mistake is below. Your predictions?
““I had several folks call and e-mail me saying they were very upset with (the posters),” Izbicki said. “They’re upset about the image of the dog behind bars. It’s not so much that they have to pay their fines. It’s just the dog behind bars. People don’t mind being reminded of stuff; that’s done all the time. But the graphic was kind of upsetting.””
How about the countless human beings that the state puts behind similar caging bars for trivial acts… like owing a small amount of money. Human, dog, doesn’t matter to the state… they’re all treated the same. It is sad that the public at large doesn’t want to even know about the cruelty that the state uses. Knowing evokes emotion. It’s easier to be comfortably numb and not pay attention.
The story “Residents want to impound signs” is here.
I want to impound the ability of government people to steal your things and loved ones.
Toby and Nick each take a shot of hot sauce and then attempt to do a show. Topics covered include the Supreme Court ruling the Chicago gun ban is unconstitutional, governments wasting money, and footage from the 2010 Porcupine Freedom Festival.
News coming out today in Fort Lauderdale, FL, the day AFTER our friends Adam and Pete were arrested for filming the police, reports that an officer was caught outright lying on a police arrest report… and has resigned.
“The police report, written by Overcash, charged Hamilton with resisting arrest and disorderly intoxication, although the video never shows the suspect struggling and he doesn’t appear to be drunk.”
When you’re dealing with someone with the ability to lie, get away with it, and ruin your life… what options do you have to protect yourself other than filming?
Only the bad cops don’t want to be filmed. The good ones have nothing to fear. Remember this every time you hear someone defend the corrupt act of arresting someone for filming a public official… in public.
Keeniac activists Rich Paul and Capuzzo were traveling through the police state of Massachusetts yesterday and were arrested for allegedly possessing cannabis and a firearm. Along with them was a female I am not familiar with named Jackie. The heroic bloggers from CopBlock.org, Adam and Pete headed down to Greenfield today to bail them out. Naturally, they brought along video cameras to document the process. Turns out the police didn’t like that very much and proceeded to arrest Adam and Pete. Cop Block reports:
Cop Block bloggers Adam and Pete were arrested in Greenfield, MA for videotaping (which I believe is a felony in MA) while trying to bail fellow activists out of jail. You can listen to audio of the arrest here.
They are being held at the Greenfield Police Department which can be reached at (413) 773-5411. If I understand correctly, Adam and Pete have not identified themselves, so ask about “John Smith” and “John Smith” instead of Adam and Pete.
No bail has been set yet, but I’ve been told it will probably be set tomorrow. Allison Gibbs of LOLA is raising money to bail them out. If you’re interested in contributing, please send money ASAP to ladiesoflibertyalliance@gmail.com via PayPal.
