Man charged with contempt of court

After a profanity-laced interruption during an arraignment in Keene District Court Tuesday, a man affiliated with the libertarian Free Keene movement was charged with contempt of court, according to court documents.

Adam M. Mueller, whose age and address are not listed in court documents, was sentenced to 60 days in the Cheshire County jail by Keene District Court Judge Edward J. Burke.

The incident occurred during a morning video arraignment of another man affiliated with the Free Keene group. The man was arrested at the court Monday, accused of disorderly conduct and resisting arrest after he refused to remove his hat in court.

The man, who has been identified on the Free Keene website as Pete Eyre, has not provided his name to authorities and is being held without bail at the jail in Keene.

During Tuesday’s arraignment, Mueller stood and “began to loudly utter a string of profanities, expressing his opposition to the proceedings,” according to a court document outlining the basis of the contempt charge.

About 10 minutes later, Mueller appeared in court to speak to the charge, after which Burke handed down the jail sentence, saying Mueller’s behavior interfered with the proper administration of justice, according to the court document.
