Video of Bureaucrats Removing Signs and Flag from Statue and Commentary

Thanks to Lauren Canario:

In response to my discourse on the so called “Civil War”, AnnAmazedReader wrote this in the comments:

Debates regarding the circumstances under which the secession of a town, city, county, state or region from a larger “entity” are potentially interesting, although I would imagine that any enemy of the FSP would welcome the project’s members waxing verbose about the North’s engagement with the South in our Civil War being essentially evil. Arguing on behalf of a region’s supposedly inalienable right to treat human beings as chattel (while making the childish analogy between said chattel and American citizens in our time) on the basis of the sanctity of property rights is probably not a winner, folks. Unless you are actually 1) trying to undermine the movement, or 2) fundamentally non-serious and more inclined towards attention-getting stunts and rhetoric. Sorry.

Well-meaning Americans like Ann have been seriously misinformed. It wasn’t necessary to fight wars to abolish slavery in other parts of the world. (more…)

Boston Globe Covers Free State Project with Focus on Keene Activists in Front Page Article!

Many will nitpick things in here, like the headline calling us “antigovernment”, (I’d prefer pro-freedom) but you really can’t get better mainstream media coverage than this. The story lavishes attention on our movement and even links to FreeKeene.com. Thank you to the Boston Globe’s Sarah Schweitzer and photographer Cheryl Senter for this great article:

From a jail cell in this rural corner of New Hampshire, Sam A. Miller waged a philosophical battle, one milk carton at a time. The soft-spoken electrical engineer declined food for nearly a month, save for swigs of milk. To eat, he said, would be caving to the tyrannical government powers that placed him here for illegally filming in a courthouse and refusing to reveal his legal name to jail officials. (He says it’s private; jail officials obtained it from a fingerprint trace.)

His resistance has made him a folk hero among antigovernment types who have been making their way to New Hampshire from points across the country since their leaders put out a clarion call six years ago.

The Free Staters, as they are known, hope to lure thousands of like-minded souls to the state, with the goal of paring government to a bare minimum by eliminating things like taxes, speed limits, and zoning laws.

Thus far, just 427 Free Staters have relocated. Yet, here in Keene and in pockets across New Hampshire, Free Staters are making their case in increasingly provocative ways. (more…)

Update: The MHD 3 are Free, but Sam still Imprisoned

Motorhome Diaries‘ Jason Talley says:

The #MHD crew has been released from Jones County jail. I was pepper sprayed and choked for refusing to give ID.

Sounds like the story is yet another horrific example of government tyranny. How many more of your friends and associates must be abused before you take action? Have you stopped paying federal taxes? Have you joined the Free State Project and moved to New Hampshire? Have you considered moving to where Pete and Jason are planning to move after the diaries are done?

Also, I’d like to thank all the great bloggers who stepped up and covered this story so quickly. I wish our other activist friend Sam could have gotten such a quick rush of attention when he was arrested for recording video in a public court lobby and imprisoned indefinitely without trial for invoking his right to remain silent. Sam has now been in jail over four weeks and is on a hunger strike. Please scroll through FreeKeene.com to read his blogs and get the story, or visit sam.jailedactivist.info and freesamdodson.com for more on his situation.

I will be inviting the MHD 3 on Free Talk Live tonight to tell their story.
