There’s been a theory floating around America for the past couple hundred years suggesting that government people gain their power and legitimacy via the “consent of the governed”. As I understand it, in the world of Legal Land, it is commonly held that silence is tantamount to consent. In that, if the government people demand something of you and you either comply or say nothing that you are consenting to their rule over you.
Some of us liberty activists say that that is absurd. We say that the reason people comply is not because they consent but because they are frightened of violent government people hurting them, their family, or taking away their property.
Perhaps it’s not an either-or situation. While it is true that most people comply with government people’s demands due to fear of violence, it is also true that if enough people withdrew their consent and therefore their compliance, government people would no longer have their precious legitimacy. In a recent criminal justice subcommittee vote, “Representative” Delmar Burridge of Keene was the only member of the five person subcommittee to vote against marijuana decriminalization in the form of HB 1623.
In refusing to decriminalize marijuana, Delmar either purposefully or inadvertently has supported the continuing black-market profits of New Hampshire’s criminals and the continued arrest and ruined lives of thousands of New Hampshire’s young people.
The criminal justice committee will be voting possibly this week on HB 1623. Please contact Delmar Burridge at 603-352-5363 and dburridge@ne.rr.com and tell him how you feel about his support of marijuana prohibition.
Inquiries to Burridge from FreeKeene.com and Free Minds TV have been ignored.
If you would like to beg some politicians to act in a sane manner, here’s what you can do:
The full NH House Criminal Justice and Public Safety committee will vote an up-or-down recommendation on marijuana decriminalization as early as THIS TUESDAY.
This bill has a decent shot of passing, if there is a public outpouring in favor of it.
The number of emails from New Hampshire residents in favor of the bill will make all the difference.
(Only) if you live in New Hampshire, PLEASE take one minute of your time RIGHT NOW! (more…)
