House Democrats form the “Freedom and Family Coalition”

Via John DiStaso:

state Rep. David Pierce, D-Etna, told the Status that he and Rep. Cindy Rosenwald, D-Nashua, are organizing a legislative caucus, called the Freedom and Family Coalition, which he says will be open to members of both parties to counter “partisan diversions.” …

Pierce said the Freedom and Family Coalition is just getting started, “and hopefully members from all sides of the aisle will want to join. I get the sense that the Republican caucus has many factions.”

(The large block of libertarian Republicans is presumably one of the targeted factions.)

He said that “voters spoke clearly in November that they want the Legislature to focus on the economy, jobs and keeping things within the Constitution, and the Republican leadership has not done that.

“We’re directed toward keeping the middle class free, not only on constitutional issues like marriage equality, but also on economic issues. There are still too many people out of work and too many foreclosures. We’ll try to cite policies to create jobs in New Hampshire and improve the economy.” (more…)

Will NH adopt approval voting?

Four Republican state representatives have sponsored a bill that would replace first-past-the-post voting with approval voting for all state offices and presidential primaries.

Under this system, voters would select every candidate they approve of (regardless of party), and the candidate with the highest overall vote total wins. This reduces strategic voting, and would often make elections easier for moderate and libertarian candidates.

The bill, HB240, will have a public hearing Tuesday, February 1st, with the House Election Law committee.

New NH GOP chairman is a “radical extremist”

On Saturday, Jack Kimball (who, according to the Union Leader, is “a founding father of the NH Tea Party Coalition”) was elected as Republican party chairman, replacing former governor John Sununu.

So who is this guy?  Fortunately, during his bid for governor he was interviewed on Capitol Access, so we can learn more:

In response, the New Hampshire Democratic Party says, “It’s official! The New Hampshire GOP has been taken down by the radical extremists of their party.”

Prometheus Unchained: My New Show

You may recall a post where I talked (in jest, mostly) about how we named the show. Tomorrow is our 2nd live episode of Prometheus Unchained, a radio show where Neal Conner and I talk about LGBT issues (lesbian, gay, bisexual, & transgender) from a liberty perspective.  I’m guilty of a mild breach of protocol by posting the cover art of the show as a comic, but otherwise it will get pushed down the page and possibly missed by new visitors.

You can listen live on the Liberty Radio Network between Noon and 2pm every Sunday or download any past episode for free for your computer or portable listening device from our website. RSS Feed is also now available. The website was just updated from what was essentially just a placeholder and the archive is now hosted on the new server which will be much more convenient. Download the first episode if you missed it.

I hope you’ll join us!

A note to those subscribed to the email list– the list is currently not functional which is why you didn’t get an email update about this post.  I apologize and I’ll be addressing this and other reliability issues of this site in the immediate future.

“Prometheus Unchained” IS TOTALLY GAY!

I apologize for not posting much.  I’ve been busy with a lot of creative projects.  One of them is plans for a podcast with discussion of gay and lesbian issues from a liberty perspective, which has evolved into a radio show, with hosts Neal Conner and yours truly, and with a different guest host each week.  And… our first show is tomorrow!  Stephanie Murphy of the Porc Therapy Podcast will be our guest host.  The show will be broadcast live on the Liberty Radio Network Sundays from noon to 2pm and you’ll be able to call in and join the discussion.  The archive will be re-broadcast at various points each following week, as well as being download-able for free from the website.  Read More
