Last night at the MSFI committee meeting at city hall the councilors voted 3-0 to send over 100 allegedly unlicensed dog owners in Keene “civil forfeitures” – a euphemism for threatening demand letters.
They claim they are just following state law, but they don’t have to. It’s wrong to threaten peaceful neighbors with fines and caging. These dogs are not dangerous – they are just unlicensed. Why should any free people have to beg the city for a permit to keep and love a furry friend? Why not license birds and cats too? Is this about revenue? What is it about? What happens if you don’t pay the fine? Do they lock you up or take your dog?
I encouraged the councilors to do the right thing and leave their neighbors alone. They ignored my advice and voted to threaten their neighbors instead. Sadly, I was the only one there to speak up for peaceful dog owners – and I don’t even own a dog.
Earlier today, the defense team headed by David Coombs to represent Bradley Manning rested after a presentation of nine witnesses from forty-six originally nominated. Some of the trial proceedings were held in secret during the government’s interrogatories. Bradley Manning will not be taking the stand in his defense. Al-Jazeera English has the story on the latest from the trial scheduled to conclude August 23, in addition to more detailed reports from the Bradley Manning Support Network.

One week after having my property stolen from me by a secretive enforcer for the New Hampshire state police, I have written a letter which I have submitted to Larry Kane, the clerk of court for the Keene district. I entertained the idea of writing to the judge in this case, but ultimately decided to address the clerk of court. Not being charged with a crime, I cannot file a motion relative to a charge, so I instead exercised my free speech and relayed my issues and requests to the court’s president of paper.
Dear Mr. Kane,
I, Garret Ean, am a member of the Keene, New Hampshire community. On the morning of June 26, I was bicycling in my neighborhood when I was approached by two men claiming to be acting under judge Edward Burke’s authority. One of them handed me paperwork before penetrating my pants pockets with his bare hands, looking for all sorts of items to deprive me of, ultimately settling on confiscating only my valuable videocamera.
When I was free of the undesired captivity of the two strangers, I searched to find out why it was that my property was taken, and why such a warrant exists. As I flipped through the documents, I discovered that at least one attachment cited in the partial search warrant was missing. Specifically missing was the explanation of what constituted probable cause to violate my state and federal constitutional, as well as human rights. (more…)
Keene Cop Block invited Ian Freeman, a six -year inhabitant of Keene, NH, to share a bit about the ongoing harassment he’s faced from so-claimed “authorities” for his efforts to simply live free from their supposed “legitimate” coercion.
In this video Freeman, host of the nationally syndicated Free Talk Live and blogger at FreeKeene.com and ShireSociety.com, among much else, touches on the latest iteration of threat levied at him before speaking candidly about his motivations and the real impact had as the peaceful community emerges.
Instead of cowering, Freeman, knowing full-well that he’s not harmed anyone, has opted for transparency. His actions have undoubtedly embolden others – both in and outside of the ‘shire – to see the gun in the room, and speak out as well.
It’s been a hectic 36 hours since my camera was seized from my person by two armed men, one of whom rifled through my pockets with his bear mitts. In that time period, I’ve organized videos regarding the encounter into one source on Fr33manTVraw, and have followed up with legal professionals on how to move forward. The next step is finding out where the missing affidavit is, and if it even exists. I’ve since received a backup recording device from a friend, which I used today as I went Robin Hooding with visitors in town from Michigan. Fortunately, I have not been accosted by law enforcement since the robbery. I’m am still operating under the impression that myself or my property may be seized at any time while I am about, as there is no deadline on the surviving portion of the search warrant that was executed on myself yesterday morning.
Last evening, a good portion of Free Talk Live focused on the peculiar encounter with law enforcement, as I occupied the guest chair on the program, beginning at 0:21:34. In addition to the incident, we discuss AKPF #1, Robin Hooding, and toward the end of the show, the war on chalk is examined. The full episode is linked below, courtesy of the soundcloud.
