Liberty Activists and Authoritarian Statists Call WKBK’s “Talkback” 2008-11-29

Filed under: Audio, Corruption, Economic Freedom, Issues, Personal Freedom, Response — Ian at 1:12 pm on Saturday, November 29, 2008

Radio TowerLiberty activists called WKBK’s Talkback on Saturday and discussed public transportation, the Free State Project, drug decriminalization, government, and corruption. That set off the statist authoritarians who proceeded to dominate the entire third hour. I have included their calls in this archive in hopes they will inspire you to call the show next week:

The unfortunate fact is, the authoritarians are still the bulk of call load on this show. We could really use your help! Please join us in calling the program with a pro-liberty viewpoint. Get details and discuss on this Free Keene forum thread.

Skip Starbuck’s for World AIDS Day

Filed under: Uncategorized — dalebert at 1:40 am on Saturday, November 29, 2008

Skip Starbuck\I discovered this wonderful corporate outreach by Starbuck’s on World AIDS Day through Facebook. It appears that Starbuck’s is going to oh-so-generously donate 5 cents when you buy one of their beverages. Well, not any beverage of course. It has to be one of three holiday specials, so they won’t be sacrificing 5 cents on their less exorbitantly-priced beverages. It’s not just people dying in Africa depending on them, after all. They have shareholders dependent on them as well.

I know that reads sarcastically, but I’m actually one of the last people to complain about someone making money by providing a product people like. In fact, kudos to them for some brilliant marketing. That’s what it is, after all. I’d be willing to bet they’ll spend more on the ad campaign promoting their “charity” than they will actually end up donating. Let’s be real. Starbuck’s is not a charity. It’s a business.

Anarchy Isn’t The Answer

In The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, a massive super computer is asked for a simple answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything. It spends 7 and a half million years to determine that the answer is 42. Of course, the realization is quickly made that a simple answer to an extremely complex question, or more accurately many difficult questions, is ridiculous on its face. The real answers to all the big problems are not easy, however badly we may desire them to be. (Read on …)

Free Minds TV November 28, 2008 (EP86)

Jail inmates who crawled through the ceiling to have sex with each other charged with felony escape charges, and a 15-year-old girl charged with child porn for taking nude photos of herself. Are prosecutors keeping us safe or filling our prisons to pad their resumes? Also, government bail-outs on the Downsizer Dispatch, holiday travel, and gun sales are up.

Help me get mine! The Golden Porcupine is awarded to any Free State Project member who manages to recruit three or more people to participate in the FSP. The idea is that if everyone currently signed on were to recruit three people, we’d more than reach our goal of 20,000 signers. I’d like to do more than that though. I’d like to be the #1 recruiter! That’s going to be tough competing with people like Ian and Mark of Free Talk Live with thousands of listeners across the country, but it won’t keep me from trying.

Did you find out about the FSP from Anarchy In Your Head? Were you encouraged to join by the comic? Make sure you tell Phil Denisch. If you haven’t signed up yet, why not? Go sign up now and put Dale Everett as the person who referred you.

Failing to See the Trees for the Forest

Filed under: Anarchy in Your Head, Personal Freedom — dalebert at 9:05 pm on Monday, November 24, 2008

There is no forest. There are only trees. The “forest” is a human fabrication, an abstraction that exists only in our minds. Abstractions serve a purpose in human communication, certainly. Let’s not try to deny that. However, we must never forget what they really are and that they only exist in our minds.

If you take a particular cluster of trees and establish boundaries in your mind and decide to name it Fangorn Forest, then until you tell others about it and they agree with you, Fangorn Forest exists only in your mind. Even when you do tell people about it and perhaps draw some boundary lines on a map, some may agree, some may disagree about what the boundaries are, or may want to call it something else, or may not want to acknowledge it at all. Even then, Fangorn Forest exists in some minds but not others. At no point has reality ever actually been altered. The “forest” does not exist. The forest has only abstract existence and even then it exists only to the extent that various people consent to it and to the extent that they agree on its properties.

Keene court cops harass the Ridley Report:

To My Captors

Filed under: Issues, Personal Freedom, Police — Ian at 3:47 pm on Sunday, November 23, 2008

I spent the entirety of last weekend in the Cheshire County jail. I want to thank the Sheriffs who cuffed and transferred me as well as the Corrections Officers in the jail for their professionalism and courtesy. I made it clear that I did not intend to resist and you made it clear that you did not want to hurt me. I respect you for the level of humanity you treated me with, considering the system itself is inhumane. There may be a few bad guys among you, but I could not identify them during my brief stay. Also special thanks to Lieutenant Kevin Clark for allowing me a personal phone call when the in-cell phone wouldn’t work with my girlfriend’s cell phone.

Unfortunately, while I’m sure you all do your best to do your job as instructed so you can keep food on your family’s table, you should know that what you are doing as part of your job is wrong. Many of you already know this. In fact, the superintendent of the jail, Richard Van Wickler, is a member of Law Enforcement Against Prohibition. (Read on …)

Charges Dropped Against FreeKeene’s Toby and Ian!

Filed under: Announcement, Freedom Fest, Issues, News, Personal Freedom, Police, Update — Ian at 1:28 pm on Sunday, November 23, 2008

Radio TowerThis just in from KPD’s Sgt. Eli Rivera: He is dropping the unlawful assembly charges against Toby and I! Here’s some speculation as to why. Perhaps they realized they had no case. The regulations clearly state that permits are only for those that intend to exclusively use certain “public facilities” like electricity for a specified period of time in a specific location. Therefore, even under their own rules (and ignoring the pesky Constitution, of course) it’s quite clear that simply assembling in a public place does not require a permit.

Perhaps another reason they decided against it was because they felt as though too many activists might come out and refuse to stand for “justice” Burke in protest of his recent crackdown on courtroom sitters. (Read on …)
