Blank State Project

I was just thinking about why I’m so happy here in New Hampshire after moving here as a participant in the Free State Project. I’ve talked about it many times before. There’s something very empowering about taking hold of your own destiny and shaping it into what you want. Most people are simply reactionary. They end up wherever they end up because it’s close to where they grew up or they got a job that required them to move. Not many people make a conscious effort to think about about the kind of people they want to associate with and the kind of place where they want to live.

Free State Food Drive

When asked to describe a good anarchist, Karl Hess said, “Good neighbor, good lover, good friend.”  If Free Staters could regularly display those qualities to the inhabitants of our chosen home, it would go a long way to dispel the image of wild-eyed bomb-throwing conspirators that some probably have.

Liberty Activists Call WKBK’s Talkback 2009-03-21

Radio TowerLiberty activists called WKBK’s Talkback this morning and discussed dancing licenses, recording public trials, property taxes and business development, the free market and the economic situation, the violence of the state, alcohol and young people in Europe, liberty activists showing up at city council meetings, property rights, and privatization. You’ll get to hear Cynthia and fellow city councilor Nat Stout actually talk some sense in the beginning of the archive, though Nat blames the free market for the economic troubles the country is facing. While NH has it’s share of problems, at least many of the politicians are friendly towards a number of freedom ideas. To their credit, both Nat and Cynthia voted against a ban on bars being built within 500 ft of an existing bar.

If you are awake on Saturday mornings, we could really use your help! Please join us in calling the program with a pro-liberty viewpoint. Get details on when and how and discuss with other activists on this Free Keene forum thread.

Below the post, I’m including the final scene of the series finale of SciFi’s re-imagining of Battlestar Galactica, for those who haven’t seen it. BSG is a show that in over four seasons told the story of the near extinction of mankind at the hands of the machines they created, the Cylons. In the finale, an alliance of human-friendly Cylons and humans makes a stand against the vindictive anti-human Cylons and one Cylon’s choice has drastic consequences. Here are my reflections on what Battlestar Galactica meant to me, and they do include a spoiler: (more…)
