Today in Keene’s Central square, beginning at 4:00, a weekly event known as Free Speech Fridays was held. The idea behind the event is to provide an open microphone for the people of Keene to come out and speak to the general public. This is the third such event to be held in Keene’s Central Square, and so far it has been a success. Unfortunately, it’s not without its bumps in the road.
At approximately 5:00PM two individuals wearing blue outfits with small pieces of metal on them, carrying large firearms approached the gazebo in Central Square. The demanded in the name of some person calling themselves ‘The City’, who at this time is unidentified, that the persons gathered in Central Square cease using the publicly available power outlets due to a lack of a ‘permit’. After some questioning, these two individuals, against the requests of the owner of the PA system set up for Free Speech Fridays, unplugged it. After some further discussion between the attendees and the aggressive individuals, the aggressors left the are. An unknown individual then restored power to the PA System and Free Speech Fridays continued.
The aggressive individuals did not further harass any attendees. Talley.TV was there, and will post video later.

Continuing our look at education in a stateless society, lets examine homeschooling and unschooling. Because of the similarities between the two, I’m going to present both in this post, rather than repeat myself. Both home and unschooling are very student driven, giving focus to each individual students needs. The parents, who will act as instructors, are very involved in the child’s education, which is more difficult when the children are sent to an outside school. Home/Un-schooling also has an incredibly low cost.

The claim that Keene is the “liberty media capitol of the world” remains unchallenged as new people continue to move here and broadcast the message of liberty. The latest mover is Ali and she brings the Liberty Belles Radio Show with her. Well, half of it. The show originated in her former home of Auburn, Alabama (and home of the Mises Institute) with our mutual friend Leah Farrow. We’ll get to see Leah at nearly every Porcupine Freedom Festival in Lancaster, NH where she applies her trade as a tattoo artist.
The episode below is their first since Ali’s move to Keene and the two friends discuss what they’ve been up to during their longer than normal (and action-packed) hiatus.
Find (and like) them on Facebook and never miss another Liberty Belles Radio podcast at Podomatic.
Here’s the episode where Ali discusses her move to Keene!

Let’s take a closer look at the options available in a voluntary society. We’ll start with private schools. For the purpose of this essay, I’m going to assume that the current standard of a single teacher teaching a class of 30 students in a building containing multiple classrooms is the market chosen system. It may or may not in fact be what the market comes up with, and we can’t know what that actually is until we have a market in education.

Lets take a look at how various state services may be provided in the absence of government. Education, Roads, Protection, Courts, pollution control, and many other services currently monopolised by the state can not only be provided by the private market, the will be more affordable, less intrusive, and respond to customer needs faster. Education is often a service that people just can’t seem to imagine without the state. But as I hope to demonstrate, the private market can, and will, provide, if only the state got out of the way.
