The New York University and the Chicago studies on drug addiction support the notion that drug addiction necessarily leads to predatory crime as a way of life. “For most narcotic addicts, predatory crime (larceny, shoplifting, sneak thievery, burglary, embezzlement, robbery, etc.), is a necessary way of life.”
It doesn’t have to be.
Here are latest victims of New Hampshire’s failure of a drug war:

04/29/10 NH police seek similarities in 3 bank robberies
(They don’t say precisely, but I bet you a million dollars I know the answer……….)
04/29/10 Somersworth man arrested on charges of North Berwick burglary, theft
“Peasley said it’s possible Colby might have broken into the restaurants looking for cash to pay for drugs because his girlfriend, Raschelle McAuliffe, 21, of 10 Canal St., was arrested earlier in the day on April 16 for possession of illegal drugs and for violating terms of her release.”
(oh it’s “possible” that’s why he did it, eh?)
04/30/10 Rochester man receives suspended prison time for pawning stolen gold coins
(When people burglarize to get money for their drug habits……… where do they go to turn their wares into money? I can think of numerous cases of people who stole directly from their FAMILY in order to have money to buy drugs.)
04/30/10 Police say burglar caught in the act
(Yep.)
04/30/10 Teen now charged in break-in, theft
(Mm-hmm.)
04/30/10 Alleged burglar leads police on brief chase
(Another one.)
05/01/10 Pawned video games lead to charges
(More pawning. Pawn shops are where drug addicts go with stolen items to get money for their habits. This wouldn’t happen if we had a harm reduction strategy to assist people who are dependent on drugs.)

But prohibition doesn’t cause crime, right?
Wrong. It is proven by scientific research. If the government really wanted to protect people from this type of crime and help people who use poor judgement and get addicted to dangerous drugs, harm reduction is the way to go. But what incentive does the government have to adopt this rational and compassionate policy when so many people stand to lose their jobs over it?
