Derrick J. Jailed for At Least 75 Days

My friend and co-blogger Derrick J checked in to the local spiritual retreat Monday at 5pm. His sentence could be as little as 75 days, and possibly over 100, depending on “good time”. Please write to Derrick via Mail-to-Jail or at this address:

Derrick Horton
825 Marlboro Rd.
Keene, NH 03431

You can put money into his commissary (so he can be a little more comfortable on the inside) via the info here.

Stay tuned to Free Keene as Derrick J is expected to blog from the inside. Plus, a feature-length documentary is in the works.

Your letters make a big difference – please send your thoughts to Derrick. Mail-to-Jail makes it easy.

“Patients’ pain ignored” – Letter to Concord Monitor

Paul O’Day of Spofford writes to the Concord Monitor, calling out the head of the NH police chiefs, Richard Enfield for his lack of compassion:

Re “Law enforcement resisting pot bill” (Sunday Monitor front page, April 29):

Enfield Police Chief Richard Crate was quoted as saying the pending medical marijuana bill is “looking for a potential solution when there’s not a problem out there.”

Many people endure needless pain and suffering because of the prohibition of this medicine.

Others risk losing their money, their liberty, their houses and their kids if they break the law to stop their pain.

Some people with cancer or other serious ailments succumb unnecessarily to the symptoms of their illness or its treatment such as chemotherapy, dying months or even decades sooner than they would have had they been able to use medical marijuana.

Untold numbers unnecessarily suffer from the worst diseases and ailments known to mankind. Others unnecessarily risk everything to escape their suffering. And some people are unnecessarily sent to an early grave – and there is no problem out there? (more…)

My Affidavit To The NH Senate

Here is the sworn statement I’ve submitted to the New Hampshire Senate Judiciary Committee about what I believe is blatant abuse of Part II, Article 73-a by select judges in the New Hampshire Judicial Branch.

To those of you reading this in law enforcement:  The complaint for False Reports to Law Enforcement only has to allege knowingly, but you could even prove purposefully.  The Judge stopped, turned around, and stated unequivocally “that’s a criminal offense.”  He made darn sure the bailiffs arrested Ademo.

Could he have felt threatened?  Sure.  Was it a criminal offense?  Absolutely not.

Would someone please arrest Judge Burke already?

Medea Benjamin Dragged From Press Conference During Drone Killings Monologue

It’s a surprise to learn that Medea Benjamin was allowed into a press conference marking the anniversary of Osama Bin Laden’s mysterious execution. ‘Counterterrorism Advisor’ John Brennan spoke about US military operations overseas, including the use of drones to kill suspected combatants, at the April 30 event at the Woodrow Wilson International Center in DC. Medea (whom you may remember from the Jefferson Dance Party) stood and interrupted the official’s speech and spoke out on behalf of innocent victims of increasingly advanced US militarism. The venue was reasonable enough to not ask that she be arrested after police dragged her from the room. Linked you can read Medea’s account of the event, and see the courageous interruption below:

Yardsale Take-Aways

Neighbors helping neighbors makes for strong communities 🙂

That was the text included on the bottom of the quarter-page flyer distributed to houses in the neighborhood ten days ago inviting people to attend and contribute items to a yardsale held yesterday. And it’s what motivated me to be involved in the event.

Why not get items no longer utilized into the hands of those who’d put them to better use? Seems like a win-win.

Guest Blog: “A Month in the ‘Free State'”

New mover Chris Cantwell reflects on his first month in the Shire:

A few weeks ago, my shotgun would have subjected me to years in a state prison, I paid an 8.625% sales tax on nearly everything I purchased, and a progressive state income tax made every effort to steal from me the fruits of my labor. Finally, a local municipality driven mad by xenophobic anti-immigration activists declared my apartment illegal and threatened to evict me from my home. Thanks for that, no, really, thank you, because coming to New Hampshire is the single greatest thing I’ve ever done in my entire life.

So I fit what I could in my van and fled the criminal gangs calling themselve The State, operating inside the arbitrary geopolitical boundary commonly known as New York. 5 hours north, I find myself in Marlborough, New Hampshire, just outside of Keene.

The move couldn’t have gone smoother. (more…)
