The “mud season” issue of Vermont Commons, the very cool left-wing secessionist journal, has been released.

Some highlights:

• An interview with former Green party presidential candidate David Cobb, regarding his recent work with MoveToAmend.org and corporate rights.

(Michael Badnarik, former Libertarian presidential candidate and Free State Project member participant – though not yet in New Hampshire – was arrested with Cobb when they jointly engaged in civil disobedience at a presidential debate in 2004, crossing a police line while attempting to serve an order to show cause to the Commission on Presidential Debates. “These are not debates, these are infomercials,” Cobb said. Sentinel covers upcoming school board elections

Keene school board elections are this Tuesday, March 8th. The Sentinel has profiles of the six candidates:

Neil W. Donegan and Kathleen O’Donnell.

Robert L. Peiffer 3rd, Kimberly A. Simmons, John Stewart, and Ann F. Szot.

The Keene school district website says, “The election is set for March 8, 2011 at the polls, which are open from 7:30 a.m. until 7 p.m. Wards 1, 2 & 3 vote at the Keene Recreation Center, 312 Washington Street, and Wards 4 & 5 vote at the First Baptist Church, 105 Maple Avenue. Same day registration is available.”

This is a chance to have a slightly more effective influence over school board decisions, as opposed to holding signs in front of the middle school.

First Ever Jury Trial of a “Free Stater”? Monday Morning.

Jim JohnsonThis Monday morning, 3/7, Jim Johnson, one of the “Trespassive Twelve” arrested at the Cheshire jail last year will be facing a jury trial, with jury selection beginning at 9am.

This may be the first jury trial of a “free stater” thus far in New Hampshire, and more are expected this year. It also appears to be the first trial that Cheshire county has held in months, due to the unfortunate plea bargain process that encourages people, through intimidation, to take a guilty plea for a reduced sentence. The state agents never have to prove their case, which is frequently full of holes, and people are forced to pay hundreds of dollars in fines. That’s no easy task anytime, let alone in a down economy.

Activists will be out early at the court to perform jury nullification outreach, informing potential jurors that they have the right to vote their conscience, not just whether the government’s statutes were violated.
