While reading the excellent article by the Union Leader that Ian Freeman blogged about earlier, I couldn’t help but notice the following comment:
“It would be a real tragedy if one of these people were shot in the face while reaching for a recording device that looks much like a weapon.
– The Blue Boot, manchester”
There is absolutley no conclusive evidence that this commenter was in fact a member of law enforcement. For the sake of argument, please assume that he is.
What Mr. Boot is suggesting is that members of the public utilizing cameras to record public servants performing public functions (as allowed by the 1st Amendment all law enforcement officers swore an oath to uphold) be shot under the fabricated guise of a justifiable shooting.
Should a police involved shooting ever happen under a circumstance similar to the one Mr. Boot has articulated, I think subpoenas should be issued to compel the Union Leader to identify the IP number of the computer used to post the threatening comment. Such a shooting could potentially be a premeditated murder.
There might even be legal grounds to have the Union Leader be ordered to preserve (but probably not identify) the IP# of Mr. Boot’s computer now.Â
It should be painfully obvious to anyone looking at these situations that the government employees are the ones who apparently have a hard time controlling themselves, not the liberty activists. Weren’t a group of unionized government workers just ejected from the statehouse for rowdy behavior?
It’s really quite sad to watch public employees squirm, stomp their feet, and make subtle death threats when faced with real accountability.
A subsequent comment to the article reads:
“It would be a real tragedy if one of these people were shot in the face while reaching for a recording device that looks much like a weapon.
– The Blue Boot, manchester”
I can’t tell if this comment is real or troll bait, but it speaks volumes about why the free state nutjobs are right on this one.
– Johne Locke, Pinardville
I agree it could be troll bait, but that’s really not important right now. It will be very important if a police-involved shooting like this ever happened.
Perhaps when George Orwell was quoted saying “If you want a vision of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face – forever” he really meant “If you want a vision of the future, imagine a blue boot stamping on a human face – forever.“
