“Positive Contact” – Derrick J in Jail

June 10, 2012
by Derrick J.

I’m sitting in my jail cell writing a letter in response to Keene liberty activist Darryl W. Perry of the Free Patriot Press, when a knock comes at my door. It’s Tom LaCount, a tall, handsomely-built man who some of the inmates call “Dracula” for his slicked-back dark hair and resemblance to a vampire.

“A white pickup truck and a Subaru just pulled up,” he informs me with a nod of his head toward his cell and a smirk. Tom is one of the lucky inmates in this cell block to have a window with a view. The rest of us have windows that face a red brick wall. (more…)

“Musings from a Keene Jail Cell” – Derrick J from Jail

5 days after submitting a request for a room change, Jesse steals a black pen from me.

“Well do you need it?”
That is the question of a socialist–a thief! Someone who does not respect property rights, has no notion of earned wealth or labor. He lives dependent on a structure where others provide for his needs. At the cost of 50 cents, I have seen into the workings of a physically strong but morally weak man. (more…)

“A Most Memorable Birthday” – Derrick J from Jail

O.C. spray was used this morning. Down stairs I hear coughing. I was awoken by a scream.
by Derrick J.

Today was very different from what I expected. I was awoken by the sound of screaming. I went back to sleep only to be awoken half an hour later by jailer Embry at 5:30 am.

“Mr. Horton, you’re going to be in the kitchen today. When you come out here, your nose might burn a little bit. O.C. spray was just used about a half hour ago.” (more…)

State of NH Continues to Screw Third Parties

Here’s a piece from the Nashua Telegraph that lays out how the state government has made it even harder for third parties to qualify for the ballot.

Many people support keeping third parties off the ballot, presumably because they know how much of a threat extra choices are to the establishment. Currently the LP is involved in a petition drive to secure party-wide ballot access. 13,000 signatures are required. However, if successful, it only lasts for this year’s election… UNLESS a statewide candidate from the LP receives at least 4% of the vote, which has never happened.

The system is built to prevent choice.

The Dark Side of the Greyhound Deal

As you may have seen in my last post, Greyhound services will stay in Keene.  Part of the news report from the Sentinel said that it was due to them coming to an agreement with the Vermont DOT.  Turns out that the agreement in question was regarding a subsidy.

Yes, Greyhound is apparently now a government funded operation.  Actually, this probably isn’t the first time they have taken money from the state.  I am curious as to how many of their routes are subsidized.

It is hard to blame them.  Businesses in the transportation industry are heavily regulated, so it is understandable why one would take a subsidy if it were available, though strings are likely attached.

More state involvement leads to further state involvement.  Ugh.

What’s the Deal with Silver? Why Should I Have It?

Originally posted at SilverforLiberty.com

Something I’m coming to terms with is that not everyone knows about precious metals (heck I didn’t, it’s confusing and took me years). In fact, it seems a large number of people prefer paper money to gold or silver (I understand this). Yet, some of these same people wear gold or silver jewelry, jewelry they paid alot more for in relation to the value of the precious metal in such piece. Therefore I wanted to take a moment to share a few thoughts about Silver and end with a video series called “The Silver Bullet and Silver Shield” (SBSS) by TruthNeverTold on YouTube. Hopefully after reading my perspective and watching SBSS you’ll have a better understanding why everyone should incorporate silver into their lives.

Why Silver?

First and foremost, it’s REAL money, sorry, paper money is not real money (as in it holds no greater value than any other piece of paper). More so, all Federal Reserve Notes lose value due to the sheer number that have (and are being) printed – this is called inflation.  You cannot print silver (or gold for that mater) at whatever rate you want and since silver can be used for a number of things it always has value.

Second, paper money (like Federal Reserve Notes) bare no promise of any payment, other than the actual paper value. This means that if people (any large number of people- like another country) decide to stop using paper money (because too much of it has been printed) then the value would of said paper money would be zero. You couldn’t even sell or trade paper money for scratch paper, it would be worthless and you would be stuck with it.
