Thanks to owner and local entrepreneur Dorrie O’Meara for having the courage to not only open a restaurant in a down economy but to have the courage to anger Keene’s entire population of busybodies by painting her building a bright yellow. See the Sentinel’s article for coverage of the “controversy”, including comments from local busybodies. Local liberty activists ate at Pedraza’s on Sunday and had an enjoyable meal. The food was good and it’s conveniently located next door to liberty activists’ favorite bar, Vendetta in Keene’s Central Square. I’d like to also remind Keeniacs that the competition down the street from Pedraza’s (“Margarita’s”) supported the NH smoking ban, so they are being boycotted. It’s great to have an authentic Mexican restaurant here in Keene again, especially one run by a lady who has the courage to stand up for her choices even in the face of the nastiness of the local busybodies. So, gracias, Pedraza’s!
Is good government possible? I’ve always said it’s not the size of government that’s the problem. It’s the nature of government that’s the problem. When it stops being a mafia-style monopoly, then it will finally be accountable like all other institutions would be if we truly had a free market. Small government will remain as much as fantasy as unicorns and the tooth fairy as long as the nature of government remains violent and monopolistic.
After writing several blog posts about how we live in a slave society, sometimes I wonder if I’d be personally better off if I could somehow return to that blissful ignorance of the inherent violence of statism. Maybe this struggle for freedom is a losing battle and we’d all be better off if we could just accept it and get on with our lives, just live the best slave lives possible. I was just chatting with the guy who inspired the Angry Josh character and he was expressing how he can’t believe most people aren’t as angry as he is. I think they are actually. They just don’t really understand what exactly they’re angry at.
I’ve watched my mom when she’s baby-sitting little children and they bump their noggin on something. My mom will smack the table and say “Bad table! Why’d you do that?” and then encourage the kid to do the same. The kid would slap the table angrily and quickly stop crying as if the pain has been relieved. Of course being the extremely rational type, I’m tempted to tell the kid “Watch where you’re going and you’ll have a lot less bumps on your head, dumbass,” but my mom realizes that toddlers aren’t ready for that level of logic. They’re just mad because they hurt.

I uploaded this live to Free Keene yesterday. Seven camo military humvees with men and women in camo, some of them armed, stopped off at the T-Bird on West St. to grab food and drink, then headed northwest up Route 12. Kind of a scary sight.
I’d like to take a moment to remind our readers that Free Keene is a peaceful movement. I want mankind to evolve naturally and peacefully to the voluntary society. Liberty loving people will never threaten you if you don’t join our way of life. We won’t lower ourselves to the level of the government people. They are the ones willing to hurt peaceful people and aggress against their neighbors. Always remember who resorts to violence to get their way: the men and women calling themselves the state.

Copwatch was out today to witness a police cruiser shoot across central square to drive behind a suspect all the way down Main Street. While approaching the roundabout, he pulls her over. She stumbles during the “walk the line” test, and claims that her body size makes it difficult for her to walk a straight line. While being put into the cruiser, she looks over to me, and says “Thank You.”
While I must commend the police for taking dangerous drivers off roads, my question, to anyone who knows: where is the breathalyzer? Is it back at the police station? Some method to determine beyond an officer’s judgment that someone really is driving impaired.
