The Prankster

Minarchy, or what I like to call the absurd belief that evil is necessary, has got to be one of the most irrational mythologies mankind has ever concocted. For many, it’s a brief step on the way toward fully rejecting statism, but I can’t understand how anyone spends any substantial amount of time there.

I’m hoping to expand this post later, but I’m tired.

Random Poetry Time – part 2

The root

by James B Schlessinger Jr.

You go along to get along
And when everything goes wrong
You only seek to prolong
The same old song

If change is going to happen
It is going to require action
Not more of this distraction
As a dead horse is beaten

The market will correct
When the malinvestment is put in check
The Fed must be closed
Or the economy is hosed

The money is the problem
Because you didn’t follow the Maxim
The printing presses rolled
When we should be using gold

Who Will Build the Slave Roads?

A popular point to make amongst the liberty crowd is to point out that if you are paying X percent of your income in taxes, then you are X percent a slave. In The Slave Test, assuming you didn’t pass, I promised to offer a method of determining what percent a slave you are. If my method were based on the percent of your productivity stolen then it could be quite a difficult number to calculate.

Taxes are pervasive, incorporated into almost every activity we engage in, and often evasive as well. There are the obvious ones that we see on our pay stubs and the fees we must pay to governments to partake of things we often presume to be the rights of free people, like traveling, or buying goods and services, or owning a home, but there are hidden ones like the fees that your employers must pay to hire you which comes straight out of the same employment budget they use to determine your salary. And that’s only the most obvious impact on your livelihood imposed by our masters.

Liberty Activists and Statists Call WKBK’s Talkback 2009-02-07

Radio TowerLiberty activists called WKBK’s Talkback this morning and discussed cutting government, market policing, the violence of the state, so-called disorderly houses, and more. Listen as host and city councilor Paula-Ayn Phillips claims that government aggression isn’t violence! Plus, this week’s featured statist callers claim Free Staters shouldn’t be allowed to call Talkback, challenged activists to do mass civil disobedience, and expressed great frustration at our phone call volume compared to that of the “progressives”.

If you are awake on Saturday mornings, we could really use your help! Please join us in calling the program with a pro-liberty viewpoint. Get details on when and how and discuss with other activists on this Free Keene forum thread.

Shame On You, Michael Phelps

Michael Phelps in a body speedoShame on you, Olympic Gold Medal winner Michael Phelps. As a role model looked up to by millions, your public actions have the potential to influence our culture in a positive or a negative way. You chose the latter. Edmund Burke said “All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.” You were confronted with evil and you allowed it to conquer you.

“Freedom™” isn’t Liberty

“Freedom™” isn’t Liberty

by James B Schlessinger Jr.

Tyranny of the many for the good of a few
It has been around for a while, this is not new
All with good intentions and charity
But why do you have point a gun at me?

Wire taps and no fly lists
Rights wane, they must persist!
Through it all the chant of fear
Jackals snarl, they draw near

Venal news suffocates reason
While public servants commit treason
Money brokers fleece the flock
Ethics morals they do mock
