My tenant just came by to tell me she saw Couch Enforcer Carl Patten Jr. taking photos of their couch in my yard from inside his car across the street. She pulled out her digital camera and snapped a quick picture of him. (YES the couch is visible in the picture – can you see it? No? Well that’s because it’s actually pretty well camouflaged until you’re right across from it where Carl’s car is.) Remember, Carl’s last known appearance at my property was on 8/26/08. It’s now 9/17/08. What happened to the weekly follow-up increased fine ($200, $400) tickets he threatened me with? I don’t know, but it appears he’s not done with me yet and is using his “investigative skills” to perhaps “build a case”.
Additionally, according to my tenants, they know the across the street neighbors well and if the neighbors had a problem with the couch, they are certain that something would have been said as opposed to them calling the Blue Light Gang. That plus the fact that the couch has been there for a long time tells me this is clearly the government people targeting me. Why: There are two objectives…
1) Document Nick Ryder’s controversial refusal to pay traffic fine (something that can’t be done well without panning the camera)
2) Protest – and draw attention to – an unacceptable, actively enforced court rule that unnecessarily limits freedom of press

Open letter for Judge Edward Burke
Presiding Justice, Keene District Court:
Dear Judge Burke:
Your restraint and politeness in the handling of David Krouse’s civil disobedience case this spring…turned me into an unlikely fan. It was a reminder to liberty lovers that judges in New Hampshire tend to be less violent than those in other places.
However I’m concerned regarding your stated intent to begin enforcing a bizarre rule against video camera panning. In my fifteen years of service as a TV news videographer, I’ve never seen anything like it. To tell a videographer he can’t pan or tilt his camera…that’s like telling a writer she can’t hold a pen. It violates the spirit of a “speedy and *public* trial.” That’s dangerous.
Apparently this is a district court regulation, but it’s not acceptable and must be openly challenged. (more…)
This past weekend I went to the theater to see the newest Batman movie, The Dark Knight.The movie was pretty good, very dark but good.The Joker was played by the late Heath Ledger and I must say he did a great job of getting across the psychosis and madness of the character without going all campy.One metaphor I took from the movie is the fact that government could not solve the problems plaguing the city.It took a private entity, The Batman, to get the job done.
This blog post isn’t about the movie or my weekend but rather something I saw before the movie that I just had to comment on. Call me jaded or cynical but I am always looking for the hidden meaning/agenda behind advertisements and messages in general; it can be quite interesting once you get past the high gloss façade.Most of the time these messages are very obvious and other times, more sinister.
On August 19th, Russell Kanning told the Keene District court that he would perform community service in lieu of a fine for driving without a license. Almost three weeks later, he gives viewers an update on his status and plans.
AnarchoJesse is a self-described “hardcore civil disobedient”, preferring outright subversion and disobedience over political action. Arrogant, honest, and assertive, he’s been described before as both “afraid of nothing” and “Market Anarchy incarnate”. As a principle, he believes that the only way to reveal the inadequacies and immoralities of the State is through open demonstration to force the State’s hand as well as education, under the guiding idea that all violence can only beget more violence. This, he feels, is what separates civil and moral people who act consensually from barbaric and immoral people that act with violence to achieve their goals.
Yesterday, activists chalked jury nullification related and other messages on the Cheshire county “superior” court building. Also, an unlicensed haircut was performed directly out in front of the courthouse. Here’s the video from Lauren Canario:
Now that Free Keene’s activists successfully handed out hundreds of these yellow WARNING! fliers at the Keene Music Festival, I have printed up hundreds more. Feel free to print your own (we print on cardstock), or contribute to Free Keene, to fund future fliers!
