Kyle Jarvis has penned an article that was published in yesterday’s Sentinel updating Rich Paul’s legal predicament. Rich remains detained at the Cheshire county house of corrections for the duration of his sentence, despite a recent appeal filed by his former attorney. Kim Kossick is no longer representing Rich legally, as the article states appeals are handled by other attorneys in public defense. Word on the street is that Rich may have additional attorneys working on the case soon. See a scan of the article here, as well as the version hosted at sentinelsource.com. (more…)

Yesterday – July 18th – was Chalk the Police State in solidarity with the “Sunset 3” who, in June, were arrested by Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department employees for using children’s chalk to write pro-police accountability statements on the public sidewalk.
As Kelly Patterson wrote:
on June 8th, I along with two other members of the Sunset Activist Collective were cited during a Nevada Cop Block monthly protest for “graffiti” while listing the crimes and paying tribute to the many victims of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department. After nine months of “Second Saturdays” and other events calling for the accountability that is sorely missing within Las Vegas area police departments, we were told by a “graffiti expert” that drawing with chalk on a sidewalk is now illegal, in spite of us having been explicitly told by some of his own co-workers that sidewalk chalk is in fact legal previously.
Among other things – Patterson and his colleagues hope to draw attention to the fact that no LVMPD employee involved in a shooting has ever been found to be in the wrong. Zero. That, of course, is the accountability had when its said to be provided via internal investigations.
So, as Darryl Perry posted at FreeKeene.com,
Several Keene activists went to Central Square, and then to the sidewalk in front of the KPD “Satellite Office” across the street from the Square. Those who attended chalked pro-liberty messages, and had some pleasant conversations with people walking through the area.

Keene Cop Block invited Ian Freeman, a six -year inhabitant of Keene, NH, to share a bit about the ongoing harassment he’s faced from so-claimed “authorities” for his efforts to simply live free from their supposed “legitimate” coercion.
In this video Freeman, host of the nationally syndicated Free Talk Live and blogger at FreeKeene.com and ShireSociety.com, among much else, touches on the latest iteration of threat levied at him before speaking candidly about his motivations and the real impact had as the peaceful community emerges.
Instead of cowering, Freeman, knowing full-well that he’s not harmed anyone, has opted for transparency. His actions have undoubtedly embolden others – both in and outside of the ‘shire – to see the gun in the room, and speak out as well.

First, the Concord Monitor tells the story of Joe Hamel, who recorded a Concord city bureaucrat and had his home searched by police, was charged with “wiretapping” and eventually had the charges dropped. The story also features quotes from heroic first amendment attorney Jon Meyer. Then, they editorialize in favor of the police no longer arresting people for recording government workers. Both articles are very good.
Here’s the story about Hamel: (more…)

The Fundraiser for Rich Paul’s appeal has been successful and the campaign to free Rich Paul is moving into a more long-term strategy. The appeal lawyer’s retainer has been raised with $3,000.00 contributed by Rich’s parents, $3,500.00 contributed by the Civil Disobedience Evolution Fund , and the remaining funds donated through the fundraising campaign. A heartfelt thank you goes out to all those that donated and supported Rich Paul!
The lawyer hired to represent Rich through the appeals process is Joshua Gordon and he has one of best records for successful appeals in New Hampshire. Rich and many of those involved behind the scenes are confident that Joshua will do a good job. The appeals process is a long one and should verdict be overturned the case may be retried.
The Civil Disobedience Evolution Fund believes in “supporting the good people who disobey bad laws” and has seen fit
to make a substantial contribution to the Appeal Fundraiser. CD Evolution has not been very active as of late but they are hoping to change that starting with this appeal. Please take a moment and visit their website for more information on the volunteer organization.
The fundraising is not finished by any means. Next up we need to raise the $1,200 it will cost to get the trial transcripts from the court and while the initial retainer is covered Joshua Gordon may require more hours of work than estimated and there are other expenses that may come up. Couple that with the possibility of a retrial and the money needed is still quite substantial. Essentially, the first step of this journey is complete and now we need to prepare for the next steps.

I, Rich Paul, have finally been sentenced after sitting in jail for seven weeks. My sentence is:
- One year in jail – With good time and time served I should be out sometime around December 18th
- Three years probation
- Various fines about $2500
Is this sentence fair? Of course not. I’ve harmed no one. I provided good product at a fair price to an adult who wanted it. I wish that more people would do that rather than making their living ruining lives to be paid with stolen money.
I can hear the drug warriors thinking, “But weed is a gateway drug.” Oh, really? The government-worshipping drug warriors should be relieved to find out that when the government’s Institute of Medicine studied the gateway effect, they found no causal relationship between the use of cannabis and the use of harder drugs like alcohol, cocaine, and heroin. Moreover, researcher and addiction specialist Todd H. Mikuriya, in his study entitled “Cannabis as a Substitute for Alcohol : A Harm Reduction Approach”, found that alcoholics who used cannabis were more likely to avoid relapse into the active use of these more dangerous drugs.
The “gateway effect” seems to be pretty well debunked. Spread the word!
I will be appealing my conviction and have already raised over $8,000 towards that end. I hope that you will help by donating here in either bitcoin or dollars.
