New Thrift Store Hosts Region’s First Bitcoin Vending Machine

Happy Customer Pays With Bitcoin @ 101 Deals

Happy Customer Pays With Bitcoin (the Bitcoin Vending Machine is to his left)

Many in the Keene area have read the Sentinel article about local businesses that are accepting bitcoin. Others may have heard about it from word of mouth or other media.  Bitcoin is becoming a worldwide phenomenon, and the word is getting out.  However it can seem confusing at-a-distance. What is this internet money and how do you get some?

The easiest way is in-person, from either another human, or in this case, a Bitcoin Vending Machine (BVM).

101 Deals Thrift Store just opened its doors on Monday at 661 Marlboro St. (NH RT-101) in Keene and on their first day of business, the Skyhook BVM was present, offering to sell bitcoin to anyone with a bitcoin wallet (usually on their smartphone).

If you don’t have a bitcoin wallet yet, there are a couple of very popular ones you can download for your favorite phone operating system: Blockchain or Mycelium. Once you have your wallet installed, drop into 101 Deals (seven-days-a-week!) with some cash and try out the Bitcoin Vending Machine.

You can keep your bitcoin, or when the transaction is confirmed in the Bitcoin network, you can use some of it to buy something you want in the store, since 101 Deals accepts bitcoin for purchases, just as do several other local businesses including Corner News, The Farm Concessions, Moda Suo Hair Salon, Carroll Garden Center in Marlboro, and Stone Farm in Fitzwilliam!

The 101 Deals BVM is the only one in the region, according to CoinATMRadar.com.  What an exciting development for the future of decentralized money in the Monadnock region!  To learn more about Bitcoin, visit WeUseCoins.com or drop in to meet the local bitcoin community on the Keene Bitcoin Network facebook group.

Alleged Free Staters Win At Least 15 Seats in State House

Free State ProjectAccording to a handy list compiled by “Free State Project Watch“, a project by pro-state group “Granite State Progress“, at least 15 people they alleged to be Free State Project participants have won the 2014 general election!!!

This is huge news. The previous counts of Free Staters in the state house were 12 in 2010, 11 in 2012, and now at least 15! It’s impressive that so many have won elected office already and the official move for the Free State Project has yet to even happen. (The FSP move doesn’t officially start until we reach 20,000 participants and we’re currently over 16,000.)

Not only that, but it’s extra impressive in that the FSP haters put in quite a bit of time, money, and effort to try to stop us. Untold thousands of dollars were spent on hitpiece flyers sent to countless households “outing” candidates as “Free Staters”.

Sure, some candidates lost, but others, like Free State Project participant and democrat Elizabeth Edwards in Manchester, got first place. Edwards even got more votes than did the incumbent!

I don’t know everyone on the list provided by GSP, so presuming it’s accurate – they claim to have done their homework – then it’s safe to say that at least 15 Free Staters are victorious this year, which is a new record high!

If that wasn’t enough good news, the majority of New Hampshire Liberty Allianceendorsed candidates won tonight as well!  (NHLA-endorsed candidates vote for liberty more often than not – they aren’t necessarily principled libertarians.)

Are you still living outside of New Hampshire? How did the libertarians do in your area? Likely they weren’t even on the ballot or did very poorly. Why not move to where liberty has a chance? Move to New Hampshire and join over 1,600 early movers with the Free State Project and help us achieve liberty in our lifetime!

Day Three & Final Keenevention 2014 Recap

Rich Paul, Carla Gericke, and James Cleaveland - Keenevention 2014's Keynote Speakers

Rich Paul, Carla Gericke, and James Cleaveland – Keenevention 2014’s Keynote Speakers

The final day of Keenevention 2014 featured a keynote from heroic civil disobedience and juror rights activist Rich Paul, panels covering Secession, Direct Action, Bitcoin, and Technology. That evening, dozens attended the longest-running social event for liberty folk in the Shire, “Social Sundays”.

Thank you to everyone who attended and helped out with the event – you made this a success! Interestingly, we had more pre-event tickets sold this year than last, but fewer walk-ins resulted in a smaller overall turnout. Multiple people had informed us that the weekend prior to the election was a tough time to have the event, due to last-minute political campaigning. So, that was likely a big factor as to why the event was a little smaller in attendance compared to 2013. Nonetheless, a great time was had, with attendees already posting accolades on Facebook.  Here’s what the Outlaw Josie Wales had to say about Keenevention 2014:

“Words can’t even begin to describe this weekend, but I’ll try. (more…)
