Sing a Song of Freedom

When I decided to make the move to New Hampshire, I still wasn’t sure what form my activism was gong to take. I was certain only that I had to do something, or live with the consequence of knowing that I’d made no effort to push back the incursions of the State–forever tormenting myself with wondering whether some simple action of mine might have made the crucial difference.
I’ve always been linguistically oriented. I make my living proofreading and copy-editing, and my mind is always whirring with wordplay that would make a cryptic crossword puzzle comparatively comprehensible. It seemed that I could channel that ability into something useful to the liberty movement.
Shortly before embarkation, I began writing down some of the songs I’d always playfully composed in my own mind, (more…)

Peace Outreach on Election Day

Peace Not Politics t-shirt designIn many places, there will be an elaborate ritual known as an election which is used as a rather contrived justification for committing violence against innocent people. November 3rd is the date chosen by those who partake in this rather disturbing religious practice. If you’re apolitical like myself, you may feel like this day is nothing special. You’re right, but knowing that many people will be using this day to reinforce their deadly delusions, I think it’s an excellent opportunity to present them with a peaceful and rational alternative that they’ve been sheltered from for most of their lives.

I’ll be handing out fliers at one of my local polling places and I encourage others to do the same. Please feel free to download and print them out using the links provided. Also feel free to modify them to suit your particular message. There is a list of websites on the last page to go to for more information. You may have a different list in mind. I like to say “Peaceful alternatives to politics” to people as they approach and I try not to shove the flier at them in an aggressive way but rather hold it up to inspire their curiosity. Your methods may differ.

I’ve also added a new design to the Anarchy In Your Head store if you’d like to have a shirt to wear for the occasion. Just click the “Peace Not Politics” image in this post to visit the store.

Letter #6 from Kurt in Jail

[Transcribed from Kurt’s “Mail From Jail” letter, which can be found here. Be sure to visit Mail-to-Jail to write letters to Kurt in jail.]

Thur., Oct 22, 2009, A.D., Day 21

It is said in many circles that patterns in the human mind bear their first fruit after 21 days of enacting that same repetitive behavior. Well, today is that day and I must say the pattern of head and neck pain as a constant nag is nearing its end as far as my wits are concerned. The double-vision and the blurryness and the difficulty focusing have gotten old. All I wanted to do was get to my love and touch, hold and talk to the most previous gift I have on this planet (oh, it’s not my little buddy, Scamper, guys, cut it out (ha ha!)). The truth is only known currently by four people that day. Which version anyone cares enough to believe is theirs to choose. I know where my conscience lays. Can the others say the same to their “Gods?” That is for time to tell now isn’t it?

Tonight is Thursday and God willing and the small minded robots not minding (too much) I’ll have a visitation. That is the highlight of my currently very uneventful and uninteresting life in jail, for telling a megalomaniacal man in a dress that his “laws” mean nothing to me. Perhaps I ought to feel differently but right at this moment I’m about sick of it all as I have been from the moment they pull me over in the guise of keeping the world safe. Bullstuph! When did the “Live Free or Die” state become East Berlin? Never in my life have I experienced more out of control “government” than this, not even in Taxachusettes. (more…)

Welcome to our newest blogger, Richard Onley!

Free Keene welcomes our newest blogger, lyricist and experienced activist Richard Onley. Congrats on approaching your first full year in Keene, Richard! Here’s Richard’s bio from the Bloggers page:

Richard OnleyRichard Onley (“Sam A. Robrin”) – Richard Onley adopted the libertarian viewpoint when he threw his copy of Steve Ditko’s comic book Avenging World across the room in disgust. The ideas wouldn’t leave him alone, however, and when customers in the Comics and Comix store where he worked observed that Ditko had “gotten hold of some Ayn Rand books,” Richard did the same. A speech by Roger McBride put him on the Party path, but campaigns, ballot drives, and policy-setting didn’t seem to be advancing liberty. Three years at Laissez-Faire Books was more productive, but the client base already agreed with the ideas sold. Disenchanted, he began living a “Bilbo Baggins existence.” Like Bilbo, though, Richard couldn’t ignore encroaching forces of evil forever, which brought him to Keene in December of 2008, where his wordplay and cynicism appear to be more of a contribution to liberty’s dissemination than anything else he’s yet tried..

Sam Dodson “Guilty” in Uneventful Trial

Judge Howard Lane, filling in for our friend Burke, found Sam “guilty” today for driving after suspension in relation to this incident.

Sam raised a few objections regarding conflicts of interest and why Burke has not yet ruled on his previous case, but he played by the court rules for the most part (except for standing). Below is a cut-down video from the trial including Sam’s objections and a few other highlights:

And here is the longer, full trial video:
