DEA Arrests Owners of Phat Stuff – Each Facing 23 Years in Prison

DEA Agents Raiding Phat Stuff

DEA Gang Robbing Phat Stuff in 2014

In a terrible update to an already awful story, the DEA has arrested the owners of Phat Stuff, the popular local head shop on Main Street that was raided in May of 2014. Panos and Katie Eliopoulos were arrested (allegedly in front of their kids) in February and have been charged with one count of “Conspiracy to Offer Drug Paraphernalia for Sale” and one count of “Conspiracy to Commit Money Laundering”. You can read the short, three page indictment here.

The paraphernalia sales charge carries up to three years in prison and an unspecified fine and the  money laundering charge carries up to twenty years in prison, an up to $500,000 fine, and an additional fine relating to the value of the property involved.

Longtime readers of Free Keene may recall that the raid nearly destroyed their business and left them penniless as the federal gangsters cleaned out their bank account and even stole their truck. Oh, and don’t forget the DEA’s theft of an entire box-truckload of store merchandise – probably $100,000 in inventory, which they’ll likely never get back, even if they’re found not guilty. The raid was done with the assistance of Keene police, who were protecting and serving their federal masters, not the people of this community.  In an ideal world, the Keene police would have arrested the DEA agents and charged them with armed robbery.  You can watch the 17-minute video of the raid, cut down from over four hours of raw footage here.

Eliopoulous Family’s Life Destroyed By Insane War on Drugs

The indictment was issued on February 11th and the arrests appear to have occurred a week later on February 18th, according to the bail paperwork. Bail conditions for Panos (and presumably Katie, though I haven’t seen her bail paperwork) include him submitting to search anytime police want, submit to urine testing, and give up any weapons, among other conditions.

Trial is currently slated for two weeks in federal court in Concord beginning on April 21st, 2015 at 9:30am. The Eliopouloses are represented by attorney Charles Keefe. Stay tuned here to Free Keene for the latest.

  1. “The raid was done with the assistance of Keene police, who were protecting and serving their federal masters, not the people of this community.

Um, they were protecting and serving the people of the community by helping to close down a place like this, you fucking clueless douche.

  2. Overreach and over prosecution by prosecutors,(both state and federal) Mostly on drug laws is the number one problem within our justice system. Their methods have become so underhanded and unscrupulous that no justice or civil system nor person can long tolerate or withstand them. Their ability to compel and manipulate jury’s and to extort confessions has completely removed justice from within the justice system.they should all be required and held to a much higher standard. The same as judges or higher. At present, they are held, only, to very low standards,no more than any ambulance chaser yet are allowed to make decisions of national import. This allows villains and tyrants to flourish, all hiding behind legal status. Many use their office only to play politics. The protection of our Civil and Human Rights are supposed to be protected by these louts.Instead they completely ignore their responsibility. Most should be tarred and feathered before being ran from town.At the very least, most should be brought before a board and dis-barred on ethical grounds for total disregard and subversion of our Civil Rights as well as incompetent irresponsibility. The Boards who are supposed to censer or control these villains need to be removed for inaction

  3. The D.E.A. and F.D.A. have become the U.S. equivalent of Gestapo S.S.. The D.E.A. was a bad idea to start with and has only gotten worse ever sense. States are able to do their job. They don’t need the D.E.A. I don’t need the D.E.A. You don’t need the D.E.A. .Nobody needs the D.E.A. They are misappropriating and commandeering billions of dollars of public funds that America can no longer justify..Their funding needs to be cut by,at least, ninety-five percent and all need to be restructured to a much smaller and much more restrained gang of Authoritarian sociopaths.. This is a group of renegade law enforcement completely out-of-control .and way over-the-top.They are using the war on drugs as a smokescreen and a ruse to subvert our Civil and Human rights and increasingly more as a ruse to seize cash and property in their war on the American people. Also, through gross incompetence, have made it nearly impossible for a pain sufferer to get treatment without being thrown in jail.

  4. PRETTY MUCH!! to that

  5. There is no information in your response.

  6. Nor yours.

  7. How did this place harm you? They were running a voluntary business. Nobody was ever forced to enter it or buy anything against their will.

  8. It made them sad.

  9. Stow it, convict. They are accused of violating the law and if found guilty will be dealt with accordingly. No one wants a store like this in their community – at least the majority of us do not.

  10. *yawn* You’re boring us.

  11. Even if your allegation of a majority was accurate …A majority consensus by itself can bestow neither morality or accuracy to a conclusion. An act of aggression against otherwise peaceful people is what happened here, no matter what the “official” narrative is.

Also, your voice is a little muffled, please call your proctologist and follow up on that head extraction.

  12. If alcohol is a toxin capable of killing people via a small overdose and the anti-oxidant and neuroprotectant properties of cannabis have been granted a U.S. patent, #6,630,507, can you please explain why in New Hampshire people are encouraged to buy alcohol from the State and jailed for cannabis?

It does seem like somebodies running a protection racket, on that we can probably agree.

  13. I’m sorry – it’s difficult to understand you with Bernard’s small dick in your mouth.

  14. That Lord Keene guy is a moron. Dont feed into troll action. Just think, in a few more years he will be dead and one less person to troll our planet.

  15. Your a pathetic excuse for human existance Lord Keene

  16. Hitler had Armed Government Thugs too!

  17. Keep that plant that has handfuls of medicinal value out of our city! But feel free to stop into any of our amazing bars. Where we server liquid drugs that kills 3,000,000 people a year worldwide. # live free by our rules or get locked in a cage to DIE.

  18. In my experience the judges aren’t clean either

  19. Sounds like someone needs a visit from my IRS connections. Don’t worry they don’t use the NSA….so I’m sure they wont find you via this post.

  20. Yes you don’t want money, you don’t want business, you don’t’ want anything but government handouts we get it.

  21. You sound like Banes boyfriend…you know they guy Derrick J wouldn’t give a reach around to so be became a jilted lover. So are you giving Bane his reach arounds now as I haven’t seen a post from him in awhile.

  22. When you pull your head out, suddenly there will be light and then your hearing will be restored. I recommend a good shower before going out in public though. Good luck.

  23. Hopefuley They wont end up in prison.

Wholesale empowerment of law enforcement by unwise and incompetent politicians has lead to gangs of thugs that murder and rob, almost, at will and who answer to no one and have total disregard for anyone or anything. It is very typified in their disrespect for elders. and especially high police homicide in states surrounding Colorado.By restricting their arrest powers to the precinct to which they were,(supposed to be), assigned, prevents them from overuse of authority and from fading into obscurity after their crimes,. This also greatly limits their ability for most of the other abuses seen today. In the cities where this measure was implemented and after its opposition and passionate outcry by the police community, all conceded (after it was implemented) and agreed it was the preferred and better way. This was one of the safeguards that was removed from our Civil liberties and common sense. We wish this subverted due process and citizen safeguard to be reinstated, Also. we wish any prosecutor who violated, or allow violation of our Civil or Human rights to be disbarred for negligence and incompetence.
Restricting police arrest powers to (only) their assigned neighborhood or jurisdiction is something unheard of in most of the U,S. but not all of it or world. Here, enacted by the city council, The precinct or the section of the city where the officer is assigned and should remain. Most of America has become the Wild, Wild West for police gunslingers, many trigger happy, this because they have almost unlimited arrest power outside of their assigned area.. With this safeguard in place and once they are outside their assigned section they become just another citizen. Ending illegal stop and search.Look but don’t touch must apply to motorists as well. Many places entire family’s are forced from their vehicles and subjected to intense interrogations and searches and usually for any excuse such as a minor traffic ticket or fine. Officers are free to report to the area police outside their jurisdiction but not to detain citizens or vehicles or exercise police authority in any way. This will also stop much of the illegal arrests. The neighborhoods get their appointed neighborhood police.
A big win for the public and the police as well. Except In some places where the neighborhoods get stuck with the tyrants,(because, unfortunately, many cities refuse to fire them) they are given promotions or transfers to get them off the street and behind a desk and away from opportunities to harm or abuse the public,The appearance alone,(without arrest power)of police personal and vehicles was sufficient to deter all crime activity ,city wide. This “Look But Don’t Touch” measure proved to be highly successful.Theses programs, along with requiring the officers to become acquainted and familiarized with the residents of their assigned neighborhoods in a non-formal non-threatening manner. and by introducing themselves to the community, thus becoming a vital and positive benefit of the neighborhood and city.Likewise; a vigorous and dedicated internal affairs who actively pursued censored and prosecuted errant officers. In this instance the police are best at policing themselves.I observed these reforms and measures put in place in several cities. Other methods implemented world wide and practiced for centuries are only common sense. To send an all white team into an all black neighborhood only shows incompetence. Those of us who have learned to except all race’s as equal and to live in harmony with them.We do not wish to see a race war caused by renegade, out of control, law enforcement.
These measures, Once put in place, transformed these city’s law enforcement into showcase examples and award winning and earned merit. Also; With these measures in place, the very best of the officers were the ones who held the least rank. It was these Officers who remained on patrol and dealt with the public. Advancement in rank was to be avoided except in critical and strategic positions.Measures such as these are made necessary because of incompetence and unwise misuse of the prosecutors office, Until these, both state and federal, are held to a higher standard, the same as judges used to be, or higher, law enforcement will continue to run afoul..These are some of the elements that produce top law enforcement A position deserved and earned, but not cheered into power by an elitist city government nor allowed to tyrannize in the death grip of Authoritarian domination. Also, not bolstered on and in by the blind, bleating but adoring worship of the subjugated working stock. This “Look but Don’t Touch” must apply to citizens and motorists as well. In the city’s where it was applied it proved to be highly successful and effective, applauded by all, except for the bad guys both within and without law enforcement.

  25. Another example of govt. gone bad. But yet Keene can always be counted on to vote for whatever socialist Liberal that is on the ballot.

  26. You make me laugh Keene. Then again you are a fucking trolling clown.

  27. I know I’m here very late but I missed somehow that the owners of Phat Stuff were arrested. And then this clown Lord Keene? Wow.

Let me be clear. I’m not a Free Keener – in fact I have large problems with anarchy and the individuals involved in both the Free State and Free Keene initiatives. That said, I wonder if Lord has even bothered to a look at the charges and the law at hand here before running his mouth so righteously?

First, selling paraphanelia. Selling what they sold not expressly for drug use is perfectly legal, Lord. So according to your own standards, Phat stuff was engaged in legal trade. As a customer (a conservative one who enjoys weed but doesn’t drink a drop of booze), I can tell you the business was run way above board. I slipped a couple of times when I was in their asking about a bong and then some cleaner and they were like DEA agents themselves, it was like an alarm went off and I really didn’t say a thing directly. The facility itself is impeccably clean and orderly, the merchandise quite broad and at good prices. The staff are friendly and cogent -they aren’t obviously stoners or anything like that – and the entire experience is a pleasure. They were not charged with violating that law until this arrest, they were initially raided for selling synthetic smokables that were banned. It appears those charges have been dropped.

I searched and searched and could not see an update. I imagine now it’s a lawyers festival, with the U.S. attorney doing the usual brinksmanship. Consider, Lord, that they remaining charge is for money laundering as a consequence of trading in illegal drug paraphenilia.- in other words, the banking etc and spending of the proceeds de facto involve “money laundering” under the statute. This is typical piling on that U.S. attorneys engage in to give them such a ridiculous advantage cases that they have a higher than 80% settlement rate in such situations. Imagine, these guys could go to jail for 23 years for selling bongs? I mean, Lord, are you kidding me? They should go to jail for 23 years for selling bongs? They weren’t selling weed or any drugs, and the products they were arrested for selling are sold are sold every day legally in many stores in NH – whether you like it or not. In fact, Phat Stuff was still open as of a couple of months ago when I stopped in, still selling what is referred to as paraphenilia.

I can readily believe that the feds and the locals will pile up on drug offenders – i’ve seen it too many times to not know that 50% of all criminal justice activity is focused on drug law enforcement. Those in the system have to “buy in” and most do at some point, and then they simply go wild on drug law enforcement. But what I can’t believe is that there are “Americans” like Lord Keene. How on earth can he believe this completely trumped up federal crackdown is anything but absurd overreach? He seems to believe that he represents the will of Keene, when in fact, Phat Stuff went through an approval by the city of Keene, and that is the will of the community. He seems to not understand that many of us in the area enjoy the shop being there and don’t consider it any more odd than a wine shop or a beer brewing supply store both of which are present on main streets in Keene.

It’s this aggressive and brutish smallmindedness that is most terrifying to me. The goons will be goons – drug law enforcement is always going to be a travesty, but to cheerlead on the destruction of two individuals and their businesses and families or selling bongs? What on earth is wrong with Lord Keene and his ilk? It’s fascistic, authoritative thugs like him who make a revolution seem required in the first place. Why isn’t he careful about using the police power to suit his “values”? Why does he just cheer for his side? If he considers himself any kind of conservative he’s lost his way and if a leftist, well he’s an utter joke. In either case, an authoritarian corruption has leeched into their thinking. It’s the same fault as in Thomas Friedman’s (the world is flat and other horseshit) “China for a day” longing for that kind of authority over society for just a day. Longing for the power to just make people do what they must, it’s the anti-thesis of our liberal society and the intentions of our founders. Taking drugs was not illegal at our countries founding in most places, and was also something they never would have conceived of the federal govt controlling.

But hey, keep braying about the justice of this, Lord Keene. Lord of what? Fascism? A police state? You want to “lord” over that?
